A ceramic vessel that speaks to containment, memory, and the passage of time.
Vessel of Memory showcases Yuki Tanaka's mastery of the ceramic form. This stoneware vessel, finished with a traditional ash glaze that creates subtle surface variations, embodies the Japanese aesthetic principle of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection and transience.
The vessel's form references both ancient burial urns and contemporary domestic objects, creating a dialogue between past and present, ritual and everyday use. Tanaka fires her work in a traditional wood-burning kiln, surrendering control to the fire and embracing the unpredictable results.
Each mark on the surface tells a story: the path of flame, the settling of ash, the memory of the making.
